Rusty Owens
Aquatic Center |
What really sets Colonial apart is the name on our pool, "Rusty Owens" - the reputable swim coach of Colonial's swim program. There are few clubs in the country that have a more qualified and respected mentor leading their aquatics program. Rusty's background has taken him from a competitive kid who liked the water to a revered swim coach who brings the best out of his swimmers and aquatic programs. Here are just a few of the experiences that moled Rusty Owens:
-
Swim instructor for the U.S. Marine Corp
-
25 years as a teacher and swim instructor with the Harrisburg School District
-
Coached two Olympans - Anita Nall (Silver, Barcelona '92), and Jeremy Linn (Gold & Silver, Atlanta '96)
-
Recruited by John Spannuth, who at teh time was in charge of the U.S. Water Fitness Association , to open an aquatic exercise program that won national awards at Lebanon Valley College's.
-
Trained collegiate swimmers who attended some of the best collegiate swim programs in the country like Columbia, Harvard, Navy, and Yale.
-
13 straight years undefeated in Intra-Club swim meets.
Rusty's accolades are well worth earning a name on our pool. But, the real reason - his lifetime in the water has touched so many people. We are proud of our aquatic facilities at Colonial, but we are even more fortunate to have a pioneer like Rusty leading our aquatics program. |
